Require approval for a ticket
Turn on Require approval on a ticket type and every order holding it waits for you to approve or decline. Paid requests hold the card instead of charging it.

Approval lets you decide who comes. When a ticket type needs approval, an order that holds it becomes a request: nobody gets a ticket and no card is charged until you approve it.
Before you start
- Turning approval on needs Pro. On Free the switch is locked and says "A Pro feature."
- Your org must take cards through Stripe. Approval holds the card until you decide, and PayArc can't hold one yet, so on PayArc the switch says "Needs Stripe: the card is held until you decide." Regular tickets still sell on PayArc.
- Turning approval off is always allowed.
Turn it on
- 1In the event, open Sales → Tickets and click the ticket.
- 2In the Checkout card, turn on Require approval.
- 3Click Save.
The ticket's row shows Requires approval.
What guests see
- When every ticket needs approval, the page says "Subject to host approval" under the button, and a default checkout button reads Request to join.
- When only some do, those tickets' cards say "Needs approval" on a Showcase page.
- Checkout's last button reads Request to join. A paid request saves the card and holds the amount without charging it.
What a request is
- The whole order waits, every ticket on it, the buyer's and the guests' together, even if only one ticket needs approval.
- It holds no seat and isn't counted in Tickets sold until you approve it.
- It shows on Guests → Orders under Needs review, with an amber dot on the page's name.
When you approve, Ovante charges the held card and sends the tickets. When you decline, the hold is released. See Review requests.
- When
- Every ticket on sale needs approval
- Then
- The button says Request to join unless you picked another label, and "Subject to host approval" shows by it. When only some tickets do, those say "Needs approval" and the button stays as it is.
- When
- Your org takes payments through PayArc
- Then
- You can't turn on Require approval for a ticket, because PayArc can't hold a card. Checkout through PayArc refuses an order holding an approval ticket.
- When
- A cart holds a ticket that needs approval, alone or inside a bundle
- Then
- The whole order becomes a request: every ticket on it, the buyer's and the guests', waits for your decision together.
- When
- An order is a request
- Then
- It holds no seat, and no count or total includes it until you approve it.
- When
- A buyer places a paid request
- Then
- Ovante holds the amount on their card and charges nothing until you decide. The card is saved too, in case the hold runs out first.
- When
- You approve a paid request
- Then
- Ovante captures the hold, or charges the saved card if the hold has run out. If that charge fails, the order becomes Awaiting payment and the buyer gets a link to pay, even if you chose not to email them.
Good to know
- A sponsorship level can't use a ticket type that needs approval for its seats.
- The card fee cover and offline ways to pay aren't offered on a request.
- Requests placed before the event ends expire once it's over.
