Enter paddles

Paddle entry turns a phone into a keypad for recording raised paddles during the appeal. Anyone who can check guests in can use it, and it keeps working offline, sending entries in order.

When a level is called and paddles go up, someone has to write them down. Paddle entry is a big keypad on a phone: type the paddle number, tap the amount, save. The gift reaches the console and the live screen in a moment, and if the phone loses its signal, nothing is lost.

Who can use it

Anyone on your team who can check guests in, Door staff included, and anyone who can edit the event. Share the page with your spotters ahead of time.

Before you start

  • Give guests paddle numbers. See Paddle numbers.
  • The appeal has to be live to save entries. Until it starts, the page says you can save paddles once it's live.

Record a paddle

  1. 1
In the event, open Fundraising → Appeal and click Open paddle entry. Or open the page on each spotter's phone ahead of time.
  2. 2
Type the paddle number on the keypad. The guest's name and table show above it.
  3. 3
Tap a level, or Other amount and type one. The level being called is picked for you.
  4. 4
Tap Save with the amount. A tick shows it's saved, or a clock shows it's waiting to send.

The last entry stays above the keypad with Undo and Edit for a short while, in case of a slip. After that, ask whoever runs the console to change it.

A paddle nobody holds

If no guest has that number, the page says so. Type a name for the pledge and save as usual.

When the signal drops

  • Each entry is stored on the phone first, then sent. Entries go out in the order you made them as soon as the phone is back online, even after a reload.
  • The top of the page says Offline, or how many entries are waiting to sync.
  • A name can't be looked up offline. It fills in once the entry sends.

See what's been entered

Tap the history icon to open Recent entries: This phone for your own entries, or Everyone for the whole room. Each shows its amount, table and status, with Edit and Undo while they're still open.

Good to know

  • A paddle entry is a pledge. Nothing is charged; the money is collected afterwards. See How a pledge becomes money.
  • An unnamed seat's paddle is its buyer's, so the pledge is in the buyer's name.
  • Spotters don't see donors' emails or phone numbers.
  • When the appeal is paused or closed, saving stops.
