Edit a contact
Change a contact's details by hand. Each field you change locks against automatic updates, and a field you clear stays clear.

On this page
You can correct any contact's details yourself. Ovante treats your edit as the truth: a field you change won't be overwritten by a later registration, and a field you empty stays empty.
Edit a contact
- 1Open Contacts in the sidebar and click the person.
- 2Click Edit. From the list, you can also use the row's menu and click Edit details.
- 3Change the fields you need: name, email, phone, company, job title, school, industry, date of birth, website, city, state, country and Status.
- 4Click Save. A toast says the contact is updated, and each field you changed now shows a lock.
What happens next
- When
- You edit a contact's field by hand
- Then
- The field locks: later registrations and imports never write over it, and a field you clear stays clear. A member's own edits to their profile are the one exception.
- When
- A member edits their own name, email, phone or photo
- Then
- Their contact takes the change, even over a field you edited by hand. An email another contact already holds stays where it is.
- When
- You edit, merge or import contacts
- Then
- Nothing goes to your CRM or webhooks. Only contact changes that a registration makes are sent.
Good to know
- The lock. A locked field never takes a new value from a registration. If a checkout question later answers a locked field differently, Review shows it under Conflicting answers, and you choose.
- Clearing. Empty a field and save to remove a value for good. Registrations won't fill it back in.
- Email. One email belongs to one contact. If another contact already has the address you type, the save is refused; open that contact instead.
- Members. A member's own changes to their name, email, phone or photo reach their contact, even over your edit. A member never empties a field this way.
- Your CRM. Edits you make here stay in Ovante. Salesforce, ChabadOne and webhooks hear only about changes that come from a registration.
- A ticket's email is a different thing from a contact's. To move a ticket to another person, change the ticket. See Change a ticket's name or email.
