Let buyers cover the card fee
Let card buyers add a percentage to their order to cover processing. What they add is recorded as a gift of its own.
Card processing costs you a few percent of every sale. With this on, checkout offers card buyers a checkbox to add a percentage to their order to cover it. It's their choice; nobody is charged extra without ticking it.
Before you start
The card fee cover needs Pro, or an event with Gala. On Free, the Payments section is locked.
Turn it on
- 1In the event, open Settings and go to Payments.
- 2Turn on Let guests cover the card fee.
- 3Set Percent added. Its hint gives the most you can add.
- 4Click Save changes at the bottom of the page.
The line under the switch now names the percent.
What buyers see
On the payment step, a checkbox offers to add your percent "to cover card processing", with the amount in dollars. Ticked, the order summary shows a Card processing line.
The percent is taken from everything else on the order after any promo code: tickets, bundles, ads and the donation.
Where it isn't offered
- When the buyer picks a way to pay other than card.
- On a request for approval.
How it's recorded
Ovante records what the buyer adds as a gift of its own, so it counts as a donation, not as ticket revenue. On the Donations page, hover a gift's amount to see the part that covers card fees.
- When
- A buyer chooses to cover the card fee
- Then
- Ovante adds the percent you set to their card payment and records that amount as a gift of its own.
