Contact matching settings
Decide what two records must share to count as one person, and whether a registration with no email becomes a contact.

Settings → Contacts holds two choices about how registrations become contacts. A registration always joins the contact with the same email; these settings decide when Ovante asks you to double-check, and what happens without an email.
Change the settings
- 1Open Settings in the sidebar and click Contacts.
- 2Under Contact matching, set Two records are the same person when they share to Email, Email and phone, or Email, phone and last name.
- 3Under Registrations without an email, set When a registration has no email to Add the contact or Don't add.
- 4Click Save changes.
What each choice does
Two records are the same person when they share
| Choice | What happens when a registration's email matches a contact |
|---|---|
| It joins the contact. Nothing to review. | |
| Email and phone | It joins the contact. If both have a phone and the phones differ, Review shows it under Same email, different details. |
| Email, phone and last name | The same, for a phone or a last name that differs. |
A registration is never held back. The setting only decides when Review asks whether it's the same person, and you can split it off if not.
When a registration has no email
- Add the contact puts them on your list without an email and flags them under Missing an email on Review.
- Don't add keeps them off your list. Their ticket is unaffected.
Imports follow the same choice: with Don't add, rows with no email are skipped.
What these settings don't change
Two contacts on one phone number are suggested as duplicates when their first names agree, whatever you pick here. See Households that share a phone.
The rules behind this page
- When
- A registration has a contact's email but a different phone or last name, and Contact matching compares them
- Then
- It joins that contact anyway, and Review lists it under "Same email, different details" for you to mark Same person or Split off. Nothing waits.
- When
- A registration arrives with no email
- Then
- With Add the contact, it joins as a contact without an email and Review flags it until you add one. With Don't add, no contact is made.
