Unsubscribes and blocked addresses

Unsubscribing stops your organization's announcements but never ticket emails. Spam reports and permanent bounces block an address from every blast.

On this page

A person who unsubscribes stops getting your organization's announcements. Emails about their own orders and tickets keep coming, and so do updates about an event they hold a ticket to, until 7 days after it ends. A spam report or an address that bounces for good blocks the address from every blast.

How someone unsubscribes

  • The link in the email. An announcement, and an invitation you send members to an event, end with an unsubscribe link. It opens a page that asks whether to unsubscribe from your organization, with an Unsubscribe button. Nothing changes until they click it, so a mail scanner that opens links can't unsubscribe anyone.
  • Their mail app's unsubscribe button. These emails carry the standard one-click unsubscribe header, so a mail app that supports it shows its own button. It unsubscribes them in one step.

An unsubscribe covers your whole organization, not one event.

What it stops

EmailSomeone who unsubscribedA spam report or permanent bounce
Event update (a blast before the event has been over for 7 days)Still gets itSkipped
Announcement (a later blast)SkippedSkipped
Member event inviteSkippedSkipped
Order, ticket and request emailsStill gets themThese don't check the list

An event update carries a line saying the person is getting it because they have a ticket, in place of the unsubscribe link.

Where you see it

On a blast's Recipients step, people on the list carry Unsubscribed, Updates only, Marked as spam or Bounced, and the summary says how many can't be emailed. A sent blast lists skipped people with the reason. Resend in email history follows the same rules.

Taking someone off the list

There's no button for it in the app. If someone asks to hear from you again, write to support@ovante.app.

The rules behind this page

When
A guest opens the unsubscribe link in your email
Then
The page asks first, and only its Unsubscribe button takes them off your list, so a link scanner can't. A mail app's own unsubscribe button works in one step.
When
You email an event's ticket holders before the event has been over for 7 days
Then
It's an event update: it reaches people who unsubscribed from your emails, never a spam report or a hard bounce, and carries a line on why it arrived instead of an unsubscribe link.
When
You email them more than 7 days after the event ends
Then
It's an announcement: every unsubscribe applies and the email carries an unsubscribe link.
When
A recipient marks your email as spam, or their address bounces for good
Then
Ovante adds the address to your org's unsubscribe list. Emails you send to your guests skip it from then on, event updates included, and so do member event invitations.
