Require approval to join
Turn on Approve new members and every join becomes a request. A paid tier saves the card and charges it only when you approve.

On this page
With Approve new members on, nobody joins your program on their own. Each person sends a request, you approve or decline it, and a paid tier's card is charged only when you approve.
Turn on approval
- 1In the sidebar, click Memberships, then Tiers and perks.
- 2Under On your org page, turn on Approve new members.
- 3Each tier's button in the tiers drawer now reads Ask to join and the tier's name, for example "Ask to join Gold" in place of "Choose Gold".
What the person sees
- A free tier: they sign in and send the request at once.
- A paid tier: they sign in, enter their card under Your card, and click Send request. Ovante saves the card with the request and charges nothing yet.
- Their org page then says Request sent until you decide.
Each request emails the org's owner, whatever Email me about new members says.
Approve or decline
- 1In the sidebar, click Memberships, then the Requests tab. An amber dot on the tab means requests are waiting.
- 2Under Waiting, click Approve or Decline on a row. To decide several at once, tick their boxes and use the bar at the bottom of the page.
- 3Confirm. Approving charges the saved card and sends the Welcome email. Declining sends the Request declined email and charges nothing.
When the card fails on approval
The person is approved but not yet a member. Ovante emails them a link to pay, and their org page shows Finish joining. They move to Approved, waiting for payment on the Requests tab and become members once they pay.
- When
- Approve new members is on and someone asks to join
- Then
- Their request waits under Requests, and a paid tier saves their card without charging it. Approving charges the card; if that fails, the person gets an email to finish joining.
- When
- A host joins through your invitation to become a member
- Then
- They join a public tier without a request, even with Approve new members on. A hidden tier still comes to you.
Good to know
- Turning approval off lets new people join at once. Requests already waiting stay on the Requests tab.
- A person can hold one request at a time.
- People who join from a host invite skip approval.
- Three emails show under Member emails only while approval is on: Request received, Request declined and Approved, card failed.
- You can always add someone yourself with Add member. See Add a member by hand.
