Change a ticket's name or email

Edit a ticket holder's details from the ticket drawer. A new email can move the ticket to another contact, and Ovante tells you which before you save.

You can change who a ticket belongs to from its drawer: the name, email, phone or ticket type. Each contact is one email in your org, so a new email can move the ticket to a different contact or start a new one. The dialog says which will happen before you save.

Change the details

  1. 1
In the event, open Guests → Attendees and click the person. From an order, click the ticket under Tickets.
  2. 2
Click Edit. The Edit attendee dialog opens.
  3. 3
Change First name, Last name, Phone or Ticket type as needed.
  4. 4
In Email, type the new address. Contacts that match appear as you type; pick one to fill in any blank fields from that contact.
  5. 5
Read the note that appears under the email. It says where the ticket will land.
  6. 6
If no contact has the new address, pick Same person or Someone else.
  7. 7
Click Save. You see "Attendee updated".

What the note means

The note startsWhat saving does
"Ticket goes to Avi Levin"Avi already has this email, so the ticket moves to Avi's contact. The name and phone you typed fill in only where Avi's contact is blank.
"Dana Cohen's email changes to …"You picked Same person. Dana keeps this ticket and their history, and their contact takes the new email. Ovante logs it as your edit and locks the field against automatic updates.
"New contact for …"You picked Someone else, or your role can't edit contacts. The ticket starts a new contact.
"Stays with …"The address is the buyer's, so it doesn't count as this guest's own.

When a ticket leaves a contact, the note says what happens to it: a contact with nothing else on file is merged into the one the ticket goes to; otherwise it keeps its other tickets and orders.

What happens next

When
You change a ticket's email
Then
The ticket moves to the contact that holds the new email, and the note under the field says so before you save. An address no contact holds asks whether it's the Same person or Someone else.
When
You edit a contact's field by hand
Then
The field locks: later registrations and imports never write over it, and a field you clear stays clear. A member's own edits to their profile are the one exception.
Every rule in How Ovante decides

Good to know

  • Same person needs a role that can edit contacts. Without it, a new address always starts a new contact.
  • If the contacts change while the dialog is open, Ovante refuses the save with "The contacts changed while you were editing. Try again." Nothing is kept.
  • The ticket's Emails card keeps the emails sent under its old address.
  • Changing the Ticket type keeps what the buyer paid. The ticket's price and your revenue don't change. If the new type costs more or less, settle the difference with the guest yourself: Ovante can't charge or return part of a card payment.
  • Editing never changes what a ticket cost, including a ticket bought before a price increase or a comp.
  • Editing doesn't send the holder an email.
  • For a ticket that reads "Unnamed ticket", the dialog is Name this ticket. See Name an unnamed ticket.
