How host credit works

A host's link carries their code. Visits through it, and tickets bought on those visits, count toward the host. Conversion is checkout orders over visits.

On this page

A host's link is your event page's address with ?ref= and the host's code on the end. When someone opens it, the visit counts toward the host, and every ticket bought on that visit is credited to them.

How long the credit lasts

On an event anyone can register for, the guest's device remembers the host for 7 days. If Dana opens Avi's link on Monday and comes back to the plain event page on Thursday to buy, Avi still gets the tickets.

A device remembers one host at a time. If Dana opens Rachel's link in between, Rachel gets the credit from then on.

On an invite-only event, nothing is remembered. The guest has to arrive through the host's link on that visit, or type the host's access code on the page. See Run an invite-only event.

Page views and visits

Every load of the event page is a page view. A visit is what starts a session: the device hasn't viewed the event for 30 minutes, or it arrived through a different host's link than the visit it was on. A guest who reloads the page three times makes three page views and one visit.

A host's Visits are the visits that came through their link. Your event's charts show page views; host numbers and conversion use visits.

These never count:

  • Your team looking at the event while signed in.
  • A host opening their own link while signed in, or from a device they use for their membership page.
  • A device that opened the event page from the button in the event's header in the app.
  • Bots and automated browsers.

Conversion

Conversion is checkout orders divided by visits. An order you add by hand doesn't count, because that guest never saw the page. A request counts once you approve it.

Avi's link brings 40 visits, and 3 of those visitors check out, buying 7 tickets in all. Avi's row shows 40 Visits, 7 Registrations and 7.5% Conversion.

Conversion shows a dash when there are no visits yet, or when orders outnumber visits. That happens when some visits weren't counted, such as a device with storage turned off.

When you remove a host

Their link stops working, and their visits stay in the event's totals.

The rules behind this page

When
A guest arrives through a host's link
Then
Their order is credited to that host. On an event anyone can register for, the device remembers the latest host for 7 days, so a later visit without the link still credits them.
When
Someone opens an event page
Then
It's a page view. It's also a visit when that device hasn't viewed the event in 30 minutes, or arrives through a different host's link.
When
Your team, a host on their own link, or a bot opens the page
Then
The view doesn't count, and neither does any view of a draft.
When
Ovante shows a conversion rate
Then
It's checkout orders divided by visits. Orders you added by hand don't count, and when orders outnumber visits no rate shows.
When
You remove a host
Then
The page views and visits their link brought stay in the event's totals.
