Who an email reaches

A blast goes to each ticket holder with an email, one copy per address. Tickets with no email are listed, and people who unsubscribed still get updates about an event they hold a ticket to.

On this page

A blast goes to each ticket holder on the event who has an email, in their own name. The Recipients step counts exactly who that is before you send, and the count on screen is the count that goes out.

Who's in

  • Every ticket whose holder is Going and wasn't refunded. Requests waiting for approval and people marked Not going are left out.
  • An unnamed ticket belongs to its buyer, so its copy goes to the buyer.
  • A dynamic audience can narrow this by ticket type and by check-in; a custom list is the people you tick.

One copy per address

When several tickets share an email, that address gets one copy, and it greets one name. Ovante picks the name in this order:

  1. 1
The buyer's own ticket, when the buyer holds one of them.
  2. 2
    The buyer's unnamed ticket.
  3. 3
Another ticket addressed to the buyer.
  4. 4
    Otherwise, the first of them.

So when Dana buys tickets for Dana and Avi and types Dana's email for both, Dana gets one email that says "Hi Dana". The Recipients step marks Avi's ticket Shared email, with a tooltip naming whose copy covers it.

Tickets with no email

They can't get the blast, and they don't count toward it. The summary says how many of the event's tickets have an email on file, and Missing email filters the list to the rest so you can add theirs. See Add missing emails.

People who unsubscribed

It depends on when you send:

SentKindPeople who unsubscribed
Before the event has been over for 7 daysEvent updateStill get it. The footer says they're getting it because they have a ticket, in place of an unsubscribe link.
LaterAnnouncementDon't get it. The email carries an unsubscribe link.

Either way, an address that reported spam or bounced is skipped. The Recipients step marks people Unsubscribed, Updates only, Marked as spam or Bounced.

The rules behind this page

When
Several tickets in the audience share one email address
Then
One copy goes to that address. It greets the buyer when the buyer holds one of those tickets, never a guest who happened to sort first.
When
Tickets in the audience have no email
Then
They're listed but not counted. Add email fixes one in place, and in a custom list ticks it too.
When
You email an event's ticket holders before the event has been over for 7 days
Then
It's an event update: it reaches people who unsubscribed from your emails, never a spam report or a hard bounce, and carries a line on why it arrived instead of an unsubscribe link.
When
You email them more than 7 days after the event ends
Then
It's an announcement: every unsubscribe applies and the email carries an unsubscribe link.
When
A recipient marks your email as spam, or their address bounces for good
Then
Ovante adds the address to your org's unsubscribe list. Emails you send to your guests skip it from then on, event updates included, and so do member event invitations.
When
A guest ticket has no name and no email
Then
It stays on the buyer's order as an unnamed ticket, carrying the buyer's name, email and phone so the confirmation and the door have something. It makes no contact and sends nothing to integrations until you name it.
