Tax receipts
Tell Ovante you're a 501(c)(3), and the buyer's confirmation email and order page state how much of their payment is tax deductible, with your legal name and EIN.
When your organization is a 501(c)(3), Ovante can print a tax statement on each buyer's receipt: how much of the payment is deductible and what the buyer received for it. It works on every plan.
Turn it on
- 1Open Settings → General.
- 2Under Tax receipts, turn on We're a 501(c)(3) organization.
- 3Type your Legal name as it appears on your IRS determination letter. Leave it blank to use your organization's name.
- 4Add your EIN (optional): nine digits, like 12-3456789.
- 5Read the preview line under the fields. It shows what a $250 seat with an $80 dinner would print.
- 6Click Save changes.
What the statement says
For Dana's $250 seat at Gala Under the Stars, with an $80 dinner:
Of your $250 payment, $170 is tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. You received goods or services worth $80. Chabad of Starbase Inc. is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, EIN 12-3456789.
How Ovante works it out
Over the whole payment, not ticket by ticket:
- Paid is every ticket still standing, after refunds, plus every gift on the order.
- Received is each ticket's fair market value, or its whole price when its ticket type has none.
- Deductible is what was paid, less what was received, less any gift marked not tax-deductible. It never goes below zero.
So a ticket type without a fair market value adds nothing deductible. Set one on each ticket type; see Fair market value and what's deductible.
Where it prints
- The buyer's "Order confirmation" email.
- The "Donor thank-you" email, for a guest who gave without attending.
- The buyer's order page.
It never prints on a guest's copy of a ticket email, before a pay-later order is paid, or when nothing on the order is deductible.
Good to know
- An EIN that isn't nine digits won't save: "Enter a 9-digit EIN, like 12-3456789."
- Gifts you record by hand carry their own Tax-deductible switch.
