Where money shows up

Revenue counts ticket money after refunds and fees, with gifts taken out. Donations count every gift. Each screen's figure, and what it counts, in one table.

On this page

Ovante splits an event's money into two figures. Revenue is what the tickets brought in, after refunds and fees, with gifts taken out. Donations is every gift. A single order can add to both.

Why sponsorship money shows under Donations

A sponsorship level is seats plus a gift. When a level sells, each seat is booked as a ticket at the admission's value and the rest of the price is a sponsorship gift. So a $5,000 level with 10 seats at $180 adds $1,800 to Revenue and $3,200 to Donations.

The same split applies to a ticket that costs more than its fair market value. See Gifts above a ticket's value.

When
A sponsorship level sells
Then
Each seat it includes is a ticket at the admission's value, and the rest of the price is a sponsorship gift. That's why most sponsorship money shows under Donations, not Revenue.
When
A buyer pays more than a ticket's fair market value
Then
Ovante books the difference as a gift: revenue counts the ticket's value and Donations count the rest. The buyer still sees the full price on their order.
When
A gift is refunded
Then
It leaves Transactions, Recent transactions and every money total, and the donor's contact stops counting it.
Every rule in How Ovante decides

Why your figures differ from Stripe

  • Stripe shows charges, gifts included. Revenue takes gifts out.
  • Revenue is after fees and refunds.
  • Offline payments you record count in Ovante but never pass through Stripe.
  • Ovante uses Stripe's reported fee for each charge, and estimates it when Stripe hasn't reported one.

See Revenue on Home doesn't match Stripe.

Good to know

  • Roles that can't see money, like Door staff, see ticket counts in place of money figures.
  • Requests add nothing until you approve them, and an order awaiting payment adds nothing until you mark it paid.
