Map contact fields
Choose which Salesforce field each Ovante contact field writes to, and whether an update overwrites what Salesforce has or only fills empty fields.
The field mapping decides which Salesforce field each Ovante contact field writes to. Three rows are always there; you add the rest. Every Salesforce field in the mapping wears a blue SF chip, so you can tell it from an Ovante field.
Map fields
- 1Open Settings → Integrations, and click Open on the Salesforce card.
- 2Find Contact field mapping. First name, Last name and Email address are locked: they always sync, because Salesforce requires a last name and matching reads the email.
- 3Click Add field and pick an Ovante field, such as Phone number or a field from your contact properties.
- 4In the new row, pick the Salesforce field it writes to. The picker lists only fields of a matching type that no other row writes.
- 5To stop syncing a field, click the remove button on its row.
- 6Click Save changes.
A row with no Salesforce field picked is left out when you save.
Overwrite or fill empty
When updating a contact…, under Matching criteria, sets one rule for every mapped field:
| Choice | What happens to a record that's already linked |
|---|---|
| overwrite fields | Ovante writes its value over what Salesforce has |
| only fill empty fields | Ovante writes a value only where the Salesforce field is empty |
Either way, Ovante never writes an empty value, so it never clears a field in Salesforce.
Label new contacts
Turn on Label new contacts to stamp every record Ovante creates, so you can find them in reports and list views. Type the label, then pick the Salesforce field it goes in. A restricted picklist takes one of its own values, and Ovante shows which. Records Ovante only updates don't get the label.
- When
- A registration changes a linked person's details
- Then
- With overwrite fields, Ovante writes the new values into Salesforce; with only fill empty fields, it fills blanks only. It never clears a field there.
- When
- You edit, merge or import contacts
- Then
- Nothing goes to your CRM or webhooks. Only contact changes that a registration makes are sent.
Good to know
- On Contacts, company maps to Account (find or create by name): Ovante finds the Account with that name or creates it. A Salesforce Contact has no company text field.
- A picklist field that lacks some of Ovante's options shows a warning. Values outside a restricted picklist fail, and History says why.
- An address maps one part at a time: street, city, state and so on.
- Only contact changes that come from a registration reach Salesforce. A field you edit by hand on the People page stays in Ovante. See What Ovante sends, and what stays.
- Leaving the page with unsaved changes asks first.
