How guests buy ads
Guests buy journal ads by card at checkout while Gala is open, with or without tickets. Ads keep selling after ticket sales close or sell out; a pause stops them.
Gala
On this page
Guests buy journal ads on your event page, from the Journal section, and pay by card in the same checkout as tickets. An ad takes no seat, so it can be bought on its own by someone who isn't coming.
How a guest buys one
- 1In the Journal section of your event page, they click Place an ad on a size.
- 2Checkout opens with the ad in the order, alongside any tickets they picked.
- 3If your event has honorees, they can pick who each ad is In honor of.
- 4They pay by card. Their confirmation lists the ads, and their order page asks for each ad's content.
They can send the artwork or text then, or any time before your Journal ads deadline. See Your buyers' order page.
When ads are on sale
| Situation | Ads |
|---|---|
| Tickets sold out, or the event is full | Still on sale |
| Every ticket's sales window has ended | Still on sale |
| No ticket's sales window has started yet | Still on sale |
| You paused sales | Stopped |
| Your payouts aren't set up, so checkout can't take cards | Stopped |
| Gala has closed | Stopped. The Journal section leaves your page. |
| A size reached its Ads for sale limit | That size shows Sold out |
The Gala window, not the ticket sales window, decides how long ads sell. To stop ads early, turn off Active on each size.
What Ovante records
- Each ad is a gift at your price, tax-deductible above its fair market value. It counts under Journal ads in Raised, and reaches your CRM as a journal ad gift.
- Each ad gets a row on Journal, starting at Awaiting content.
- An order with ads and no tickets opens like any other order, with a Journal ad chip on Transactions.
What can't be done at checkout
- Ads can't be free. A promo code for the whole order takes money off ads too, but an order with ads can't come to $0. A promo code for tickets leaves ads at full price.
- Ads are paid by card. Your offline ways to pay aren't offered for them.
- Ads can't share an order with a ticket that needs approval.
To sell an ad any other way, record it with Add ad. See Record an ad paid by check.
Good to know
- A refund on the order cancels its ads.
- Honorees are offered under In honor of once you've added them on the Committee page.
- When
- Ticket sales close on an event whose Gala is open
- Then
- Journal ads keep selling after every ticket's sales end, a sell-out or a full house. Only pausing sales stops them.
- When
- You pause ticket sales
- Then
- Checkout closes for every ticket whatever its dates, requests and journal ads included, and the button says Sales paused. Each tab of the event shows "Ticket sales are paused." with Resume sales until you resume.
