Seating requests and rules
Ask guests at checkout who they'd like to sit with, turn their answers into rules, and accept the ones you agree with. Auto-seat follows accepted rules only.
On this page
A seating rule tells auto-seat what a guest asked for: sit with someone, stay apart from someone, sit at a certain table, or sit in a zone. Rules come from your guests' own requests and from who came to your past events together. Nothing moves until you accept a rule, and only auto-seat acts on it.
Ask guests at checkout
- 1In the event, open Guests → Seating and click Open seating editor.
- 2In the top bar, click Read requests.
- 3Turn on Ask at checkout. Checkout now asks one optional question per order: "Anyone you'd like to sit with?"
- 4To word it your way, edit Question and click away to save.
Answers show on each party in the editor, and the Requests tab lists the parties who answered. Turning the question off keeps the answers already given.
Turn requests into rules
In the same Read requests window:
- 1Under Requests, click Read requests. Ovante reads each answer and suggests rules. See Let AI read seating requests.
- 2Under Suggestions, read each one: who it joins or keeps apart, the guest's own words, and why. A Confident chip means a clear match; Check this means look closer.
- 3Click Accept or Skip on each, or Accept all confident to take every clear match at once.
Groups from past events
Under From past events, click Find groups. Ovante lists guests on this event who came to an earlier event of yours together. Click Keep to make a group a sit-together rule, or Skip. No AI is used for this.
The kinds of rule
| Rule | What auto-seat does |
|---|---|
| Sit together | Treats the parties as one, if they'd fit at one table |
| Keep apart | Never puts them at the same table |
| At a table | Seats them at that table |
| In a zone | Prefers that zone's tables |
How rules are used
- Auto-seat follows accepted rules only. Its window says how many it will follow, and how many suggestions still wait and won't count.
- The right-hand panel in the editor shows how many rules are in use.
- Moving guests by hand ignores rules. Auto-seat's report flags any table that breaks a keep-apart rule.
Good to know
- You can't type a rule yourself. To seat people together, drag them to the same table.
- A rule you accepted or skipped isn't suggested again.
