Run the live screen

Open the appeal's screen link on the venue's laptop. It shows the total, the level, the match and the latest names live. The link is the key, so share it only with whoever runs the screen.

On this page

The live screen is the page you project in the room during the appeal. It runs on any computer with a browser, with nobody signed in, because its address is the key. It updates itself as paddles go up.

Open it

  1. 1
In the event, open Fundraising → Appeal.
  2. 2
Under On the night, find Screen and its address.
  3. 3
Click Copy link to send it to whoever runs the venue's laptop, or Open to open it here.
  4. 4
On the venue's computer, open the link in a browser and make it full screen. The screen shows your event's name and the goal until the appeal starts.

What it shows

While the appeal is live:

  • The total so far, very large, and progress toward your goal.
  • The level being called, and how many gifts it has.
  • The match, when you have one, and how much of it is left. The screen's total includes the match.
  • The latest gifts, newest first, by name, or Anonymous with the amount.
  • A strip of your sponsors' logos, and a QR code in the corner that opens your event page.

It takes your event page's colors, title font and background effect.

What the console changes on it

From the appeal console you can:

  • Start, pause and close the appeal. Paused and closed have their own slides; closed shows the final total and a thank-you.
  • Move through the levels.
  • Switch the screen between Appeal, Sponsors (your sponsors' logos), Journal (approved journal ads in a loop) and Hold (a message you type, like a note that dinner is served).
  • Put one gift across the whole screen with Thank on the screen.

See The appeal console.

Anyone with the screen's address can watch it. If it reaches someone it shouldn't, click Change link under Screen. The old address stops working at once; open the new one on the venue's computer.

If the connection drops

The screen keeps trying to reconnect, and reads the latest totals again every few seconds, so it catches up on its own when the network returns.

Good to know

  • The Sponsors slide shows logos whose level includes Logo on the screen at the event.
  • A pledge waiting for review never reaches the screen until someone approves it.
  • The screen counts pledges, not money received. See How a pledge becomes money.
When
Pledges from tickets is set to Review first
Then
A guest's pledge waits in the console's Waiting for you list and reaches neither the screen nor any total until someone approves it.
